Aberdeen Art Gallery - Textile project

Such a lovely project to be involved in, working in the Art gallery education room from tuesday untill Saturday, my idea was to create large origami type animals from fabric to relate to the wildlife photography exhibition being shown upstairs. It was a lot of hard work and long hours but the end result was one i was pretty happy with and thankfully the feed back has been really positive! On the saturday the public came into the studio to help us out by making pom poms- for the tails of the fox's or fluffy birds to hang in the studio, everyone seem to enjoy it and many pom poms were made by all ages from little tots to grandads ;)

Thought i would share some pic examples of the kids work in the classes ive done recently .... also Good Ideas for crafting with your kids during the holidays ...The matchbox people were sooo cute you can make the box their house, bed, or even a tv for them to act in ;) Use the matches to make the little people with thread, fabric or pipe cleaners.. really just anything you have lying around

Ireland

Spent a few days in Dublin Ireland, i have to say it was very different to what i expected .... for some strange reason i thought it was going to be just like Scotland ;/ ... but NO not at all ( in my opinion) its more like sweden & denmark with a little bit of glasgow, sprinkled with that irish charm! The people were the most friendly i have ever come across :)

Stages of an art peice i put into 'aberdeen artists' last week,fingers crossed it gets excepted! I used all recycled Wrappers from cyprus & sewed them together to make this lap -travel Quilt

So Far........

Popped in past Coco violet a few days ago to see how my jewellery was doing..it really is such a lovely shop and smells devine too. worth a look for a special gift or a stunning dress.

Was also great to see them on TV, 'hotter than your daughter'..Sheena you were greeeat!!.x

It was mothers Day on Sunday and i was really spoiled... here is a pic of the little drawing on my card envelope ..i just loved it!! The wrapping paper was also amazing! x

My march has been busy, some of the highlights were..

Nothing to see here. An extreme event made by the people of Aberdeen and the Nation Theatre of Scotland at linksfield community centre.......This really was an amazing experience!!

Rollerskating uv disco... 130 youth with dancing, rollerskating, uv lighting and a guest performance from MJ :)fun fun fun!!

Day 21-24

So today was pretty packed but fun... Went to the 'Gas works' printing studio and did some t-shirt printing. Its a great studio, i would highly recommend using it and Lindsay is super nice and helpful.

Had the official opening of the art works and signs at TYC with the Lord Provost and local councillors, it went really well and the cake looked greeaat!!!

Day 19-20

Yesterday and today ive been putting on new anti-virus protection on my laptop.... so frustrating!! On a lighter note ... ive been doing a class at Hazelwood school making easter chicks (to cover easter eggs) sooo cute!! 

I got a really sweet easter bird brooch today from my work friend Lo...... thanks lo :) 

Also tonight i made marshmallow treats for my primary class tomor, although they will have to be judged on taste and not looks...as you can see lol

So today i woke up and my hair colour looked really emmm lets see 'weird' is the only word i can think of so yet another hair dye was bought. With kimbers help it looks a lot better ..quite dark but ok ..i think!!! we'll see how it looks tomor...i'll post a pic for you all to comment on. Its quite a shock at first glance!

Worked on some more books for the exhibition with a group of special needs teenagers, they did a great job!!

Day 11 meetings and more meetings

Had a very interesting and long day... lots of business meetings (more info on this to come later)  ;)

Then worked with the special needs kids tonight, has to be one of my favorite classes, have got to know them so well over the years! We were making books with them to be exhibited in the old peir unit in town.

Day 9 ... Soup recipe

I thought today i would share a low fat soup recipe, I made it tonight with what i had in the fridge.... it was sooo yummy!!!

You will need ............

3-4 large carrots
2-3 sticks of celery
a big chunk of celeriac (about a quarter of a small one)
1 large onion
1 dessert spoon of knor vegetable stock granules

First chop onion and fry in a large pan with sunflower oil (or olive oil) until soft then add chopped carrot for a few minutes. 

Fill the pan about 3/4 full with hot water, add chopped celeriac, chopped celery, stock and a sprinkling of sea salt

Cover with a lid and boil for 30 minutes.

liquidise 

Eat and enjoy!!!! YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Day 5,6 & 7 I spent near stansted and had a really lovely time thanks to liz and Sam :) The houses down there were just sooo cute

In every colour from pink,blue & yellow..... just wished the houses were like that here in Aberdeen!!!

We had a good laugh at the murder mystery medieval night on sat.

Day 4

Well today i was working on a holocaust memorial banner project that i have been involved with through my work. Its looking really good, almost finished and ready to be hung in the 8 schools who have taken part.

Heres a sneaky peek.

** Craft idea **

1. let your child draw a pic of themselves onto plain fabric with fabric pens or crayons, iron the picture to set and make permanent  

2. get another peice of fabric the same size and place right sides together  

3. handstitch or machine sew both peices together roughly around the drawing (it helps if the fabric is not to thick so you can see through it, to see the drawing) leaving a small gap.(to stuff later)  

4. Use the gap to turn the whole thing inside out (a bit like a sock) now you should have the cute drawing of the child on one side and a plain or perhaps patterned fabric on the other. 

5. use the gap again to stuff with stuffing or old tights etc  

6. handstitch the gap closed  

7. Finished .....use and enjoy!!

Also watched beauty and the beast tonight... what a very touching programme that is!!

Also Also kimberley got her exam results and passed them all yay!! ...shes a clever cloggs! xxx
